Mobile Device Management or MDM is a category of technology used to enforce policies for acceptable use and security across an enterprise fleet of mobile devices.
Mobile Application Management or MAM is used to deploy, and manage mobile apps according to enterprise security, productivity, and use case requirements, especially on employee-owned smartphones used for work.
These mobile solutions aren’t the same, but some MDM solutions offer robust MAM features. MDM/MAM solutions are generally used in mobility scenarios such as:
- Bring-your-own-device (BYOD)
- Choose-your-own device (CYOD)
- Corporate-Owned, Personally-Enabled (COPE)
- Company-Owned/Business-Only (COBO)
MDM and MAM are both important, but they’re not designed for IoT fleet management. These solutions may not be the right choice to manage corporate-owned, single use (COSU) devices such as kiosks, mobile point-of-sale (mPoS), or telemedicine devices.
